Turin ZF83 Commercial Espresso Grinder
The Turin ZF83 is an on-demand commercial espresso grinder built around 83mm flat DLC-coated burrs, a large 3.5-pound bean hopper and programmable timed dosing. It is designed for cafés, restaurants, mobile coffee businesses and other espresso bars that need fast workflow without moving to a much more expensive commercial grinder.
Two programmable dose selections and a manual mode are controlled from the touch display. Place a portafilter in the adjustable cradle to activate the selected dose, while the plasma generator helps reduce static and stray grounds. A magnetic removable chute and removable grounds tray simplify end-of-shift cleaning.
Why Choose the Turin ZF83?
- 83mm flat DLC burrs: Large coated burrs are designed for quick, consistent on-demand espresso grinding.
- Commercial hopper workflow: The 3.5-pound hopper reduces refill frequency during busy service.
- Programmable timed dosing: Save two timed dose selections or use manual grinding when needed.
- Hands-free portafilter activation: The adjustable cradle supports the portafilter and triggers the selected dose.
- Plasma anti-static system: Helps control static, chaff and loose grounds at the chute.
- Service-friendly cleaning: The magnetic chute and grounds tray can be removed for routine cleaning.
- Active cooling: An integrated fan helps manage heat during repeated grinding.
- Environmental monitoring: The display monitors ambient temperature, humidity and bean temperature.

- Program the two timed dose buttons for the recipes used most often.
- Adjust the portafilter cradle so the basket sits securely beneath the chute.
- Insert the portafilter to trigger the selected dose, distribute and tamp, then brew.
- During service, make small grind adjustments as coffee age, temperature and humidity change.
- At closing, remove and brush the magnetic chute and clean the grounds tray.
ZF83 vs. DF83 Gen 2 vs. DF83V
| Grinder | Best suited for | Primary workflow |
|---|---|---|
| Turin ZF83 | Cafés, restaurants and commercial espresso bars | Hopper-fed, programmable timed dosing directly into a portafilter |
| Turin DF83 Gen 2 | Home users who want large flat burrs and frequent coffee changes | Single dosing with bellows; no commercial hopper dosing |
| Turin DF83V | Enthusiasts who want 83mm burrs and variable-speed control | Variable-RPM single dosing rather than fast café service |
If your priority is repeated service from one coffee, the ZF83 is the appropriate Turin design. If you regularly switch coffees or want to weigh every dose individually, a DF-series single-dose grinder is usually the better fit.
Other Commercial Grinder Options
Shops comparing 83mm commercial platforms can also consider the Fiorenzato F83E Pro. For a smaller-burr commercial grinder, see the Fiorenzato F64 Evo Pro. The right choice depends on peak drink volume, preferred dosing workflow, counter clearance, service expectations and budget.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Turin ZF83 a commercial grinder?
Yes. It is a hopper-fed, on-demand grinder designed for repeated espresso service in cafés, restaurants and other commercial environments.
Can the ZF83 be used at home?
Yes, but it is best for a home user who wants a commercial hopper workflow and uses one coffee consistently. For frequent bean changes or weighed single doses, the DF83 Gen 2 or DF83V is generally more convenient.
What burrs are installed?
The ZF83 comes with 83mm flat DLC-coated espresso burrs.
What is a DLC coating?
DLC means diamond-like carbon. The hard coating is used to improve burr surface durability while retaining the burr geometry designed for espresso grinding.
How large is the bean hopper?
The hopper holds approximately 3.5 pounds of coffee and includes a shutoff flap that allows the hopper to be removed without emptying all the beans.
Does the ZF83 grind by weight?
No. The ZF83 uses programmable timed dosing. Dose weight should be checked with a scale and the programmed time adjusted as needed.
How many programmable doses does it have?
It provides two programmable timed dose selections plus a manual grinding mode.
Does the portafilter activate grinding?
Yes. The adjustable portafilter cradle is designed to support the portafilter and trigger the selected dose.
Does the ZF83 have stepless adjustment?
The grinder is intended for precise espresso dial-in. Make small adjustments and purge a small amount of coffee after changing the setting before evaluating the next shot.
What does the plasma generator do?
It helps reduce static-related spray, chaff and loose grounds as coffee exits the chute. Results can vary with roast level, humidity and coffee freshness.
Why does a commercial grinder need a cooling fan?
Repeated grinding generates heat. The integrated fan helps manage internal temperature during service and supports more consistent operation.
What temperatures does the ZF83 monitor?
The display monitors ambient temperature and bean temperature. It also monitors ambient humidity.
How do I clean the dispensing chute?
Turn the grinder off, remove the magnetic chute and brush away accumulated coffee. The removable design provides easier access than a permanently fixed chute. Follow the cleaning video below for the complete procedure.
How often should the chute be cleaned?
In commercial service, inspect and clean the chute at the end of each operating day. High-volume use, dark roasts and oily coffee may require more frequent attention.
Can water be used inside the grinder?
Do not introduce water into the burr chamber, motor or electrical components. Use a dry grinder brush and follow the manufacturer’s maintenance guidance.
How tall is the Turin ZF83?
It is approximately 24.6 inches tall. Measure beneath shelves and cabinets before ordering and leave practical room to remove and refill the hopper.
How wide and deep is it?
The listed dimensions are approximately 6.3 inches wide and 12.6 inches deep.
Is the grounds tray removable?
Yes. The grounds tray removes for easier counter and grinder cleanup.
Is the ZF83 suitable for switching coffees frequently?
Its large hopper is optimized for repeated service from one coffee. A single-dose grinder is easier when switching among regular, decaf and multiple specialty coffees.
Should a café have a separate decaf grinder?
Usually. A separate grinder reduces purging, prevents cross-contamination between coffees and keeps service moving. Espresso Outlet can help size the primary and secondary grinders for your menu.
What electrical service does the ZF83 require?
Confirm the electrical requirements for the unit and your installation before ordering. Call Espresso Outlet at (815) 954-4086 (Meet Dylan) for current specifications.
How do timed doses stay accurate?
Timed dosing is repeatable, but output can shift with grind setting, coffee density, roast, bean age and hopper level. Check dose weight throughout the day and revise the programmed time when necessary.
Does Espresso Outlet help with commercial grinder selection?
Yes. Call (815) 954-4086 (Meet Dylan) or contact Espresso Outlet for advice based on drink volume, menu, espresso machine and available counter space.
